OMG!! I just found a hidden treasure among my photo archives! I made this post on my blog many years ago and one of the photos I took (below) that day was of Perfume! Of course I had no idea who they were but incredible that I got this shot of them, although only from behind. I just happened to be in Akiba on the day they were doing the Uchimizu event. I'm totally blown away by this find.
I googled and found another photo of Perfume at the event. I could have been in this photo if I stood around behind them longer.
Lately, I've been watching a lot of videos of Perfume on youtube (It's addictive!) Around 2008 they became a huge sensation in the JPop scene and since then it's almost impossible to get tickets to their sold out concerts. But most people don't realize that they have been around for almost 10 years singing in malls and supermarkets when they were still in junior high school. After they got famous, people have been posting videos of them in these early days and I've found it quite inspiring to see that they've worked at these venues for some many years and finally their hard work has paid off. There are literally hundreds of these videos on Youtube which is indicative of the hard work they've put into their act without giving up. A true Cinderella story. It inspired me to press on with my own efforts. There is no easy path to success.
Here they are really young.
And here, apparently they spent a lot of time playing at the Sun Street Shopping centre in Kameido.
They performed at an opening ceremony at Laqua near Tokyo Done. Everyone is just sitting there watching! Can't believe it. Just like what one of the commenters to this video said, I wish I had a time machine to go back and see this. Song is Monochrome Effect.
Practicing for the performance at LaQua, almost nobody is watching!
Here they are in the Apple Store.
At AsobitCity in Akihabara. Check out that tiny stage!
This is what their concerts are like now..I wish I could have gone.
